Ultrafast Electron Diffraction

Accurate measurement of the atomic structure and motion at the same time is very important for understanding the nature of matters.

We recently built a time-resolved ultrafast electron diffraction facility (MeV-UED) with the highest temporal resolution in the world to study ultrafast structural dynamics of solid and gas-phase specimens.

Ultrashort laser pulses from ultraviolet (UV) to terahertz (THz) wave are utilized to initiate instantaneous atomic or molecular motions, of which structural changes are recorded as diffraction patterns of relativistic electron pulses initiated by the same laser pulse.

This is a quite challenging research to reveal the secrets of physical and chemical mechanism of materials.
Recently, we started to provide our outstanding facility to domestic and overseas researchers for the scientific purpose.

Nowadays, we are devoting our efforts to reveal the unknown physics occurred in various matters, such as photo-voltaic materials, two-dimensional materials, strongly-correlated materials, etc.
