India-Korea Nuclear Technology Cooperation Seminar held in India
The “India-Korea Nuclear Technology Cooperation Seminar” was held on November 5, 2015 in Mumbai, India under the theme of digital I&C. The event was jointly organized by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), the Government of India and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to India, in association with the Bhabha Atomic Energy Centre(BARC) and the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute(KAERI). Mr. Jehak Jang, the Minister Counselor of the Embassy of Korea reiterated the significance of ROK-India cooperation in his opening remarks where he briefly introduced the nuclear energy development program in Korea and the current status of nuclear cooperation between Korea and India. Mr. Arun Srivastava, Head of International Cooperation& Planning Division of DAE, welcomed the Korean delegation and gave a comprehensive explanation about current nuclear activities carried out in India in the areas of R&D and industry.
The seminar is a follow-up to the 1st India-Korea Cooperation Committee meeting held last December in Mumbai and it is the first time that experts in the areas of digital I&C of India and Korea have come together to discuss the specialized issue in a separate seminar. Experts from both sides made presentations on items such as V&V, Diagnostics and Prognosis Technologies and Cyber Security for I&C Systems and had discussions on practical ways to identify possible areas of cooperation. Both sides agreed to have further internal discussions based on the presentations in order to identify concrete scope and formats of cooperation. The discussion on specific cooperation will be continued and coordinated in the 2nd India-Korea Cooperation Committee meeting, which is planned to be held on the 12th of January in Daejeon, Korea.
