Vietnamese Delegation visited KAERI

A group of Vietnamese delegation headed by Prof. Dr. Bui Van Ga, Vice Minister of the Education and Training, Vietnam, visited KAERI on March 27, 2015 to promote a better understanding of nuclear activities in Korea and to step up bilateral nuclear education and training program.

During the meeting at KAERI, Dr. J. K. Kim, president of KAERI and the Vietnamese delegation exchanged opinions on current nuclear situations and new developments in their countries and discussed ways to develop cooperative ties in personnel training and education in line with Vietnam’s nuclear power program. Dr. Kim said that based on professional manpower equipped with rich expertise and experience gained from the steady construction and operation of NPPs over the past 40 years, KAERI is willing to provide its full support and assistance to Vietnam as much as possible in facilitating cooperation in fostering Vietnamese professional manpower and in exchanging information and relevant materials.

Prof. Ga mentioned that Korea’s training quality has been recognized by the world and their visit to Korea is a good chance for Vietnam to learn a lot from Korea’s nuclear development experience. He said that his country is making efforts to support domestic manpower for various education and training programs aimed at developing human resources for future nuclear power plants. The Vietnamese delegation asked KAERI’s support in long-and-short term training human resources targeted for professors, engineers and university students in the field of nuclear energy and close cooperation among Vietnamese universities, including the Hanoi University of Science and the Hanoi university of Technology and the University of Dalat and KAERI.

KAERI has maintained close cooperation with the Vietnamese nuclear related organizations based on a Nuclear Cooperation Agreement signed between both our governments in 1996. KAERI hosted a workshop for Vietnamese high-level policy-makers aimed at introducing Korean nuclear policy and experience in achieving self-reliance in nuclear technology and provided its technical support to the Nuclear Research Institute in Dalat for the construction of a research reactor modelled after HANARO, and support for a nuclear training center at the Dalat Nuclear Research Institute. KAERI has cooperated with Hanoi University of Science, Hanoi University of Technology and the University of Dalat in the area of nuclear human resource development based on the concluded MOU. KAERI experts in nuclear safety analysis and radioactive waste management were sent to the University of Dalat to give lectures in September 2010 and April 2012.

Following the meeting, the Vietnamese took a technical tour of ATLAS facility.
