On June 20, 2024, a delegation led by Dr. Geoffrey Shaw, Director General of the Australian Safeguards and Non-Proliferation Office (ASNO), visited Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) to strengthen cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

ASNO supports Australia's nuclear non-proliferation activities, implements safeguards agreements and engages in various international initiatives related to nuclear security. This visit was part of Director General Dr. Shaw's efforts to explore collaborative opportunities with Korea.

Dr. In-Cheol Lim, Executive Vice President of KAERI, welcomed the ASNO delegation and expressed his gratitude for ASNO’s efforts to promote the peaceful uses of nuclear energy globally.

Dr. Geoffrey Shaw expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to visit KAERI and praised KAERI’s R&D efforts, noting their significant contribution to enhancing global nuclear non-proliferation and security. He emphasized his commitment to fostering diverse cooperation between ASNO and KAERI.

Following the meeting, the ASNO delegation toured KURT (KAERI Underground Research Tunnel) facility and experienced KAERI’s ongoing research activities firsthand.
