On July 29, 2026, Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) welcomed a delegation from OQ, Oman's state-owned integrated energy company, led by Dr. Said Al-Hamimi, Head of Research & Development.
During the meeting, KAERI Acting President Dr. Lim In-cheol and Dr. Al-Hamimi exchanged views on the role of nuclear energy in supporting Oman’s long-term energy diversification strategy and discussed opportunities for expanding cooperation in nuclear research and development.
The two sides identified several promising areas for future collaboration, including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), green hydrogen, and nuclear R&D infrastructure development. As OQ moves forward with plans to establish its own R&D center, the delegation also showed strong interest in KAERI’s experience in developing and operating a national nuclear research institute.

Following the meeting, the delegation toured KAERI’s major research facilities, including the HANARO Research Reactor and the ATLAS thermal-hydraulic test facility, where they gained first-hand insight into Korea’s nuclear research capabilities.
Acting President Lim stated, “We hope this visit will serve as a meaningful first step toward building a long-term partnership between KAERI and OQ. By combining our expertise and experience, we look forward to advancing cooperation in innovative nuclear technologies for a sustainable energy future.”
