Promotion Strategy

(Goal) Development of convergence and basic-core technologies incorporating 6T and nuclear technologies

(Activation of Core Technology Development) Development of quantum materials by using complex particle beams including neutrons, protons, and electrons, research on dynamics of materials and biological behavior under extreme conditions such as ultra-high temperature, ultra-low temperature, ultra-high pressure, ultra-low vacuum, and high-radiation dose, and identification of protein structure and development of anti-cancer/diagnosis materials

Research Facilities

  • Research Facilities

    Test facility for development of electron accelerator

    The test facility for electron accelerator development is used in the design, manufacture, and commissioning of 0.2 - 25 MeV electron accelerators for nondestructive testing, cancer treatment, and basic science. It is equipped with various electron accelerators such as S-band and X-band accelerators.

  • Research Facilities

    20 MeV Superconducting electron linear accelerator

    The 20 MeV electron accelerator is the only superconducting high-frequency electron linear accelerator in Korea, generating a maximum average output power of 100 kW.
    The accelerated 2 MeV electron beam is used in research fields to change the chemical, physical, and biological properties of industrial crops.
    The 20 MeV electron beam bombarding neutron generation target produces fast neutrons which that are used for neutron cross section measurement through the neutron time-of-flight facility.
    The fast neutron cross section data serve as a basis for various nuclear R&D such reactor development, spent fuel, radioactive waste disposal, decommissioning nuclear facilities, radiation shielding, nuclear waste transmutation, and medical isotope production.
