H.E. Philippe Lefort, Ambassador of France to the Republic of Korea, visits KAERI 

On February 10, 2023, H.E. Philippe Lefort, the French Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, visited KAERI and held a meeting with its President, Dr. Joo Han Gyu, to explore the possibility of strengthening nuclear energy cooperation between the two countries.

Korea and France have had a long-standing partnership on the peaceful use of nuclear energy for over 40 years as global leaders in this field. 

Recently, the two governments agreed to expand the field of civil nuclear cooperation at the 25th Korea-France Joint Coordinating Committee on Nuclear Energy, held in November 2022.

In this context, President Joo welcomed the visit by addressing the importance of bilateral cooperation, especially in research and development for the advanced reactor. Highlighting the objectives of KAERI, Dr. Joo shared KAERI’s ongoing R&D activities and achievements. 

After the meeting, H.E. Philippe Lefort took a technical tour of KAERI’s high performing multi-purpose research reactor (HANARO), designed and built independently. The visit is expected to provide momentum for exploring potential cooperation and drive concrete progress between the two countries.
