10 New Scientific Counselor at US Embassy in Korea visited KAERI

Ms. Kirsten Bauman, Chief of Environment, Science Technology and Health Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Korea, visited KAERI on September 1, 2011 and had an in-depth discussions on ways to promote substantive bilateral cooperation between US and Korea.

 

In the meeting with Dr. Y.H. Jung, KAERI president, Ms. Bauman appreciated the opportunity for her to get a clear picture of research activities KAERI has carried out and to familiar herself with nuclear area though she has been actively involved in the geothermal sector is one of alternative energy sources during her assignment in Ethiopia.

 

Dr. Jung emphasized the importance of ensuring nuclear safety in the wake of Fukushima accident and the action ROK has taken on the comprehensive review of the safety of all nuclear power plants in Korea. He also explained new developments such as the establishment of a Nuclear Safety Commission which will be launched in October this year with the aim of serving to further elevate the safety standards and nuclear safety regulation.

Dr. Jung asked for US cooperation in promoting a mutually beneficial cooperation in order to create a win-win situation between both countries.

 

She made a technical  tour of HANARO research reactor and ACPF(Advanced Spent Fuel Conditioning Process Facility). .
