Dr. Jess C. Gehin, Associate Lab Director for Nuclear Science and Technology at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), visited KAERI on April 27, 2023, to discuss ways to step up cooperation between KAERI and INL following his participation at the International Congress on Advances in Nuclear Power Plants (ICAPP) 2023 held in Gyeongju city.

His visit to KAERI provided an excellent opportunity for KAERI and INL to strengthen their longstanding relations and multifaceted cooperation. Focus areas include developing advanced fuel cycle technologies and sharing technical and experimental capabilities, especially modeling and simulation (M&S) technologies, for advanced reactors such as Sodium-cooled Fast Reactors (SFR) and Molten Salt Reactors (MSR). The visit reflects the importance of the KAERI-INL cooperation as close partners in nuclear research and development, with INL being the US DOE's leading national laboratory for nuclear energy research and development.

On that day, KAERI also hosted Dr. Timothy E. Valentine, Director of the Radiation Safety Information Computational Center (RSICC) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Dr. Valentine, who is responsible for managing and expanding the services and operations of RSICC, gave a presentation on the historical perspective of RSICC and its distribution of nuclear modeling and simulation tools, as well as the benefits of contributing software programs to RSICC. After his presentation, Dr. Han Gyu Joo, President of KAERI, said that KAERI would gladly contribute the KAERI-developed top-notch computer codes to RSICC.
