Dr. Joo Han Gyu, the President of KAERI, welcomed the Honourable Brian Jean, Minister of Jobs, Economy and Northern Development and the Honourable Rajan Sawhney, Minister of Trade, Immigration and Multiculturalism of the Government of Alberta on February 28, 2023. Their visit to the institute was to explore possible cooperation on SMART deployment, which promises to be a game-changer in the global nuclear market.

It is clear that Canada, a renowned leader in promoting clean energy, is at the forefront of SMR deployments, in pursuit of their net-zero goals. And the Government of Alberta, in particular, is exploring ways to apply SMR to the industries, which could serve as a groundbreaking example for global carbon reduction efforts.

In this context, President Joo welcomed the Ministers and highlighted the foresight and leadership of the Government of Alberta towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future. Also, he presented the latest advancements in SMART technology and expressed his belief that KAERI is poised to make a meaningful contribution towards a more sustainable and prosperous future for the province.

Following the meeting, the Ministers visited KAERI's research facilities, including the SMART-ITL and SMART-MCR Simulator. It was an excellent opportunity to see the technology up close and to witness the advancements being made in the field.

Overall, the visit lays a solid groundwork for potential future SMART cooperation and partnerships between KAERI and the Government of Alberta.
