On March 8, 2024, the Danish delegates led by the H.E. Lars Aagaard, Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities, visited Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) along with the H.E. Svend Olling, Danish Ambassador to the Republic of Korea.

Celebrating the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations, Denmark and Korea have developed close relations in various fields, especially in the energy sector. Today's visit aimed to explore the possibility of expanding cooperation in nuclear energy.

President Joo welcomed the Danish delegation's visit and expressed admiration for Denmark's efforts to overcome the climate crisis. He highlighted the importance of nuclear power in the future energy mix, providing stable and clean energy at a low cost without emitting carbon dioxide. He also explained that Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and advanced nuclear systems will be crucial in achieving net zero.

H.E. Minister recognized KAERI's efforts in addressing the climate crisis through developing nuclear technologies and stated that he would look into ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the nuclear sector.

Following the meeting, the Danish delegation took a technical tour of KAERI’s research facilities, including HANARO (High-flux Advanced Neutron Application Reactor) and SMART-ITL (System-integrated Modular Advanced Reactor-Integral Test Loop).
