KAERI Signs MOU with BAEC to Promote R&D Cooperation in Nuclear Energy 

KAERI and the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on May 25, 2022 in Dhaka to promote technical cooperation in the research and development in nuclear energy. The signing ceremony was held at the BAEC building with the attendance of Dr. Won Seok Park, President of KAERI, Dr. Md. Azizul Haque, Chairman of BAEC, H.E. Lee Jang-keun, Ambassador of Korea to Bangladesh and other representatives of BAEC and KAERI.

The aims of the MOU is to strengthen the existing close cooperation between the two organizations through, amongst others, joint study and training on topics agreed by Parties, meetings organized to discuss specific technical topics and cooperative activities, visits of individuals or teams from one Party to the facilities of the other Party, transmittal of information from one Party to the other and assessing the role of current facilities, or planning for future facilities. Areas of cooperation under this MOU include development of research reactors, utilization and refurbishment of research reactors, production and utilization of radioisotopes, development of radiation technologies, materials and neutron science and radioactive waste management. 

Dr. Won Seok Park said that built on the excellent state of cooperation in the Design, Supply, Installation, Testing, and Commissioning of Digital I&C System of 3MW BAEC TRIGA Research Reactor for which contact was signed in July 2021, this MOU signing will provide a significant momentum to elevate their cooperation to a new higher level.
