KAERI and PNRI Signed MOU

 

The Memorandum of Understanding between the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute and the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute was signed by the representatives of both organizations on September 24, 2014 at the IAEA headquarters in Vienna during the IAEA general conference.

This new MOU signed by Dr. Alumanda De La Rosa, Director of PNRI and Dr. Jong Kyung Kim, President of KAERI came after both sides agreed to expand mutual cooperation by setting up a new framework since 1994 when KAERI and PNRI signed the MOU.

Areas of cooperation in the field of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes include basic research of nuclear energy, advanced Radiation Technology, application research of nuclear energy, promotion of application of R&D results of above areas, human resource development of nuclear energy field, etc.

Prior to the MOU signing ceremony, KAERI and PNRI have in-depth discussion on seeking ways to promote active cooperation and agreed on cooperating on the areas of Radiation Advanced Materials (biofunctional materials, green energy materials, nanomaterials), Radiation Breeding and Biotechnology (rice, coffee, ornamental plants)”, Research Reactor Utilization (neutron science, radioisotope production and applications), and  “Environmental Radiation Technology (dispersion studies for both atmospheric and marine, dose assessment).

PNRI, formerly the Philippine Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), is the sole agency of the government mandated to advance and regulate the safe and peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology in the Philippines.  It is one of the research institutes under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
