JAEC Chairman visited KAERI
Dr. Khaled Toukan, Chairman of the Jordan Nuclear Energy Commission, visited KAERI on June 30, 2004. After your participation at the symposium in Taiwan, you visited the POSCO Plantec plant in Ulsan yesterday. I’m sure it was a very fruitful experience.
I appreciate your valuable efforts made for supporting the successful construction of the JRTR.
At the meeting with Dr. J.K. Kim, president of KAERI, Dr. Toukan said that he is very pleased to push ahead with the cooperation with Korea and to learn a lot from Korea in scientific and technological areas, and expressed his wish that this current excellent state of bilateral cooperation will be further strengthened.
He said that JAEC will apply for the construction permit for the JRTR within this year and that the commissioning of the JRTR is expected to be completed later next year.
As for KAER’s request to send about 50 JRTR operators to KAERI implemented under KAERI’s providing training and education programs targeted for November 2014, JAEC said that the composition of the team from various areas such as nuclear, electricity, and mechanical areas is underway
He said that Jordan has an ambitious plan for the JRTR to be a safe reactor, and that Jordan will become a Center of Excellence in the Middle East region through the construction of the JRTR.
He toured the HANARO research reactor and radioactive waste treatment facility and he met Jordanian enginers and scientists assigned to KAERI for the ongoing training program.
